Vintage Star Wars travel posters

Vintage Star Wars travel posters: "Well, I've been sitting on these for two years now (that is far too long) and since then I've seen every kind of Star Wars mash up imaginable (but hope to see some more creative ones in the future). I say 'since then' because I really wasn't looking too hard before I completed these.

They are very much inspired by some of the vintage travel posters of the early 20th century.

These were done in association with a website in order to have them printed. That website is still working on making that a reality. I'm crossing my fingers for a quick resolve. So, for now they are just here to look at.

I decided I couldn't wait any longer to show them. With the release of the art book Star Wars: Visions, and everyone else sharing their awesome Star Wars inspired art, I wanted to throw mine into the web mix.

There are eight in all and you can see all of them together here.

If interested and you want to know when they will be available, please leave a comment and I'll get back to you. Thanks.

Dress like Steve Jobs for Halloween with iWear

Dress like Steve Jobs for Halloween with iWear: "

The guys at Scoopertino have the exclusive details on Apple's 'next big product launch.' According to them, 'Apple is making a multimillion-dollar bet' that you'll want it, too. Apple is set to release their first ever clothing line, dubbed 'iWear,' which lets you dress exactly like Steve Jobs. The iWear line will consist of a mock black turtleneck, jeans, gray New Balance 991 sneakers, and a pair of non-prescription Steve Jobs-style glasses. Apple will push the new iWear clothing line with the ad campaign slogan: 'Be Like Steve.'

If you haven't realized by now (and I hope you have), this is just another joke from Scoopertino, a Mac satire news site. Click on over to their site to read the whole article; they've got some great 'quotes' from Apple's PR people and have really outdone themselves with iWear mock-ups (including a really funny tag with care instructions for your iWear jeans). And fret not: just because iWear isn't real, it doesn't mean you still can't dress like Steve for Halloween.

I am not saying piracy is good. No, I think piracy is despicable. However, vendors should realize that all the “cover-your-ass” and ads and DRM and other crap is only hurting them more than helping them.

Dennis, Tell Us How You Really Feel About Facebook

Dennis, Tell Us How You Really Feel About Facebook: "

Ever wonder what the inspiration was for the Facebook Friends icon, the one with the outline of two people side-by-side? Neither have I. But now that Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley put up this side-by-side comparison of images on his Tumblog, I will never be able to look at the outline of the woman friend’s bob haircut again without thinking of Darth Vader’s helmet.

It’s just a funny photoshopped juxtapostion with the caption, “I’m sure this is where the Facebook ‘Friends’ icon came from.” I don’t want to psychoanalyze Crowley too much on this. He simply reblogged something he found amusing from someone else’s Tumblog. (That is what you do on Tumblr. It’s like retweeting). But you have to wonder if he doesn’t feel a little bit like the Luke Skywalker friend.

Before closing Foursquare’s last $20 million round, he was talking to Facebook (and others) about a possible acquisition instead. The deal never happened, and Facebook went on to launch its own rival geo-location product, Facebook Places. Interestingly, Foursquare was present at that launch., but Crowley definitely has mixed feelings about Facebook. Sort of like Luke did about Darth Vader.

Via the BB Submitterator, reader Dan says, 'Brock Davis is an artist for Wired, the New York Times, and other outlets, but here he created a funny Star Wars artifact. My favorite bit is that the invoice echoes period paperwork from the late '70s-early '80s when the Star Wars movies were released.'

Caprica cancelled

Caprica cancelled: "
Caprica. Coming in 2010.

Battlestar Galactica spin-off Caprica has been cancelled, and its remaining episodes taken off the air…

Sadly, many of us saw this one coming. Syfy has announced that it's cancelling its Battlestar Galactica prequel, Caprica. The show, which launched fully earlier in the year, has been battling low ratings and criticism of its narrative, which seems to have spent most of its running time building up story blocks rather than telling them. However, it's sad the show has bitten the bullet. There's real intelligence and ambition in Caprica, it was just hard work to watch at times, and consequently, very hard to sell.

As Syfy's Mark Stern said, 'We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for 'Caprica' and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series. Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, 'Caprica' has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.'

Caprica's demise was expected, to be fair, following the announcement of the new spin-off series, Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome, which Syfy announced at the end of last week. That's already got the look of something a little more action-focussed, from where we're sitting, and on paper, it's a show that looks set to enjoy more success. There's no guarantee of that, of course.

The remaining episodes of Caprica appear to have been removed from the schedules. There are five that haven't yet been aired, and we're told that Syfy will announce when these are to be broadcast early next year.
